New Chairman of British Ski and Snowboard announced

British Ski and Snowboard (BSS), the national governing body for snowsports in the UK, has today announced the appointment of its new chairman. Rory Tapner will be taking over from the current BSS Chairman, Professor John Brewer on the 15th September 2015.

Rory was, until recently, Chief Executive of Coutts, the wealth management arm of RBS Group.  This business had operations in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, the Middle East and Switzerland. Prior to that he was the Chairman and Chief Executive of UBS Asia Pacific, responsible for the Investment Bank, Wealth management and Asset management in that region.  He was also Chairman of Global Investment banking.

Rory brings with him extensive experience of leading and managing large international organisations. In each role he was responsible for developing new strategies in fast changing environments, and helping senior management implement their plans – often involving significant change programmes.  In other pro bono roles he has been closely involved in significant fundraising programmes, and provided corporate governance oversight where necessary, two skills which will be invaluable to BSS.  He is currently Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Hon Treasurer of King’s College, London and was Deputy Chairman of their £500 million fund raising campaign (“World Questions; King’s Answers”), which has exceeded all its targets 18 months ahead of time.

Rory was instrumental in helping BSS in its first funding venture in early 2010 and has now offered his time, energy and passion for snowsports to help the organisation improve the programmes and support it offers to British snowsport athletes.

Rory said: “A huge vote of thanks is due to John Brewer for all his dedication during the past 3 years, and particularly for his work with UK Sport.  I very much look forward to helping with the development of the next stage of British snowsports, working with the Board and Dave Edwards to create a strategy which is capable of raising the funding required to provide athletes and coaches with the requisite tools for success on the world stage.”

Dave Edwards, Chief Executive of BSS said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Rory Tapner as our new Chairman.  We are very fortunate to secure a Chairman with vast corporate experience and a strong background in fundraising.  We would also like to thank Professor John Brewer for his significant contribution to the progression of British Ski and Snowboard during his time with the organisation and wish him luck in his busy role at St Mary’s University.”
