Norfolk Skier is Riding High

Freestyle skier Tom Coe from Norwich is riding high after a series of impressive wins on the freestyle circuit. The 18-year-old recently won his age group at all three of the Southern Freestyle comps held at Chatham, Bracknell and Warmwell. He also took the overall podium at two of the venues awarding him the overall winner of the series.

The young skier was again on top form at the 10th Annual Farmer’s Jam held at Norfolk Snowsports Club on the August Bank Holiday weekend. This prestigious event attracts competitors from all over the country and as far away as Scotland. The Farmer’s Jam is a 2-day event of competitions to showcase the best freestyle skiing and snowboarding in the UK. Here he took top honours in both the Slopestyle and Big Air in the age 17-24 categories and the overall category for Big Air.

Tom, who is currently sponsored by Line Skis and Snowfit, has just completed his A- Levels at Kett Sixth Form College. He has differed his university place to do a season in Colorado USA and has high hopes for success in the British Championships in Switzerland in March 2011.

Success beckoned again last weekend when the British Snow Tour arrived in Norfolk. The British Snow Tour isn't just about the competition. The inspirational schools tour team, which included Pat Sharples, Becky Hammond, Paddy Graham and Tom Coe, stopped off at two secondary schools in Norwich to inspire more local kids to get involved in snow sports. Trampoline demos showing off spins and flips were the highlight for many of the children. The team presented to 500 kids with over 100 coming along to the event to give skiing or snowboarding a go courtesy of the Trespass, Giro & Protest free taster lessons.

The British Dryslope Freeski Championships consisted of Skiercross, Big Air and Slopestyle.

Local skier, Tom was on great form and linked together a faultless run to take the 2010 Protest Slopestyle Championship title on home turf.

His medals totalled 3 gold and 2 silver over the two-day event.

In his spare time Tom is a qualified ski instructor and freestyle coach, and regularly teaches budding new freestylers.
